Focusing on Healing from Traumatic Experiences

We work with children (ages 12-17) who have experienced simple or complex trauma with the evidence-based Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) model. This approach involves parent, child and family sessions focused on building coping skills, desensitizing of trauma triggers, improving emotional regulation, parental skills and support, processing trauma, and enhancing future safety.

For struggles with intense disturbing memories from recent or past traumatic events we incorporate Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) into trauma-focused treatment. This method can be helpful for both adults and children. EMDR begins with stabilization through enhancing coping and positive resourcing followed by accessing intense trauma memories and reprocessing them in a safe and secure state with the guidance of a EMDR Trained Clinician. The result is trauma memories becoming less distressing in the future and better overall functioning after surviving trauma.
